A Very Annoying Trend
Let me preface by saying I'm not the biggest fan of the blog "Kissing Suzy Kolber". It's alright if you like reading shit written by people that check Deadspin every 15 minutes and try to fit the word "cumslinger" into every sentence.
The reason I'm writing is because I found myself frustrated after reading a KSK entry about Bill Simmons. Look, the man isn't the greatest writer in the world but he has a huge audience on a massive website. While it's easy to find fans of him (as I did while in school), it's just as easy to find someone who dislikes him. It seems to be a recent trend for blogs to announce their disdain for the man. That's fine and all. I just don't understand why these bloggers consistently go after the guy. Alright, you don't like Simmons... get over it. You know that the guy is going to write about Boston. If you don't like that, don't read. It's that simple.
The thing that bothers me the most is that KSK writes in nearly the exact same style as Simmons. All of the writers talk about their hometown teams, have well-defined biases towards rivals, mention their "hilarious" friends repeatedly (in the case of KSK, it's usually how all of the co-writers' articles are amazing), talk about their families on occasions, and write massive articles about NFL spreads. The only real differences between the two is the amount of swearing, KSK's reliance on gay innuendo and the locales of each writer.
Seriously, enough of the "Peter King wants to fuck Romo" shit. It's incredibly similar to the "Shaughnessy sucks" stuff that Simmons writes. Once again, the only difference is KSK's reliance on gay jokes. It sucks because the blog can be incredibly funny. The "Get To Know a Player" series is hilarious.
I won't even touch on the Deadspin and KSK commenters who are pretty miserable in their own regards.
I'm gonna stop now. The 15 minutes is up. Time to hit the refresh button on Deadspin.
